How I work
Silver by Skip began twice.
The first time was in the early 1970s, when Skip Bingham was a college student in Flagstaff, Arizona. A part-time job at a local jewelry store turned into an opportunity to learn stone cutting and silversmithing from some truly talented artists.

In 1976, Skip put away his tools and began a different career. Forty years later, as retirement approached, he wondered if he still remembered how to do any of it.
So in 2016, he picked up the tools again.
He remembered.
Today, Silver by Skip creates one-of-a-kind sterling silver and gemstone jewelry, from bold statement pieces to simple everyday designs and the occasional whimsical piece. Each is individually handcrafted, often beginning with a stone that simply demands to become something.

How I work
I usually begin with the stone. Its color, shape and character suggest what the finished piece might become. From there, I design and handcraft the setting in sterling silver. Some favorite designs return from time to time, but the individual stones ensure that no two pieces are ever quite the same.

From bold statement cuffs to everyday rings and the occasional whimsical piece, Silver by Skip is made to offer something for different tastes and budgets. Designs may sometimes share a style, but the individual stone gives every piece its own character. No two are exactly alike. .

Silver by Skip is very much a two-person operation. I make the jewelry, and my wife Bette and I take it on the road to art festivals and shows around Arizona.
Shows are one of our favorite parts of the business. They give you a chance to see the stones up close, try pieces on, and talk with us about how they were made. And they give us a chance to meet the people who take our work home with them.
